The 1.2-liter 16-valve Renault D4F engine was produced by the company from 2001 to 2018 and was installed on such compact models as Twingo, Clio, Symbol Symbol, as well as Dacia Logan and Sandero.

Hydraulic compensators are not provided; valve clearance adjustment is periodically required.

The first engines of the 700 series existed in two versions: 60 hp and 100 Nm or 75 hp and 105 Nm. Then came the 720 series with a different intake manifold and a larger air filter. In 2005, with the release of Clio 3, the 740 series engines acquired a camshaft with a different cam shape, due to which the power of the younger  engine increased to 65 hp and 105 Nm, the older one to 79 hp and 108 Nm.
